East Lyme senior guard and leading scorer Dev Ostrowski had surgery on Thursday to repair what is termed a Jones fracture in his right foot and is more than likely done for the season, according to his head coach, Jeff Bernardi.
A Jones fracture is a break that occurs between the base and middle part of the fifth metatarsal of the foot. Ostrowski suffered the injury during last Saturday’s loss to New London.
The loss is a devastating blow for the Vikings (13-4), who next play Saturday against Weaver. Ostrowski, who will play at Miami Dade Junior College next season, scored his 2,000th career point on Jan. 31 against Stonington, becoming just the 23rd player in CIAC history to do so.
“Can’t put into words how bad I feel for Dev. It’s been a tough week and I’m very emotional about it,” Bernardi said in a text message.
East Lyme remains in contention for both the Eastern Connecticut Conference and Division III state championships.
“Don’t sleep on us. Next man mentality,” Bernardi said.
