NEW HAVEN >> Dan Harrison scored a pair of goals and had an assist as Newtown defeated Tri-Town 6-1 in the Division III semifinals to reach its first hockey state championship game.
Four different Newtown players added goals as Newtown outshot Tri-Town 41-15 and turned a 3-1 lead after two periods into a runaway late.
Newtown will face Smith/Tolland, a 3-2 winner over over top-seeded Masuk, in the Division III championship Saturday, 10 a.m. at Ingalls Rink.
Ryan Gaitos scored an unassisted goal for Tri-Town.
Newtown’s bus broke down on Route 34 in Derby, forcing the game to be postponed approximately 40 minutes. Its fan busses brought the team to Ingalls.
