Dig This: A look at Wednesday's girls' volleyball action

#ctvb – Amity’s Paul Thees nears 500 career wins, Mercy escapes and Ansonia pulls away. Dig this.

THE ROAD TO 500: Amity coach Paul Thees picked up career win No. 497 as the Spartans topped Branford 3-1 on the road Wednesday. The Spartans were led by Jenna Pisano with 19 digs, Brianna Mirmina had 17 digs, Micaela Cardozo added seven kills and Amanda Vecchio had three kills and three blocks. If Amity (4-0) continues to win out, Thees could pick up win No. 500 Wednesday at Guilford at 7 p.m.

CLOSE ONE: Mercy rallied from a 2-1 deficit to a talented Foran team and won 3-2 at Milford. Grace Brodeur had 11 digs and 13 kills, Jess Hoops had 31 assists and McKenzie Dugan had seven kills and five blocks to counter the Lions’ Fallon Bevino’s 18 kills, 10 digs and five aces. Foran had a two games to one lead after winning game two 25-12 and 25-19.  Speaking of Fallon Bevino, read her blog right here.

LEADING THE CHARGE: Morgan Westine tallied 35 assists, Shayllah Dobson had 19 kills and three blocks and Mariana Monaco contributed 14 kills and 12 digs in Ansonia’s 3-2 triumph over Crosby. The Chargers are 3-1.
