SHELBY, N.C. — Fran Kinsey had three hits and two RBIs as defending national champion Brooklawn (N.J.) pounded RCP 9-1 in the opening game of the American Legion World Series Thursday at Keeter Stadium.
Brooklawn (50-7) tagged RCP pitching with 13 hits and took command of the game with a four-run third inning and a three-run fifth. Winning pitcher Tyler Mondile allowed one run on three hits. He struck out three over six innings.
Catcher Tre Todd had a hit and three RBIs. Anthony Harrold added two hits and scored twice.
RCP’s Logan Lessard pitched five innings, allowed 10 hits and eight earned runs. He struck out two, walked four and hit two batters.
Kevin Radziewicz had two of RCP’s five hits. Chris Bouchard drove in the team’s only run with an RBI double in the third inning.
RCP (31-9), which falls to 0-1 in the East Division pool play, takes Friday off before returning to action Saturday vs. Southeast representative Jacksonville (Fla.) at 1 p.m.
