Wednesday afternoon at the Central Connecticut Conference Cross Country Championships at Wickham Park in Manchester, the Tolland girls and Hall boys made sure everyone knew they had no intention of relinquishing their crowns.
Tolland, ranked No. 1 in the state for the girls, easily defended its title from last fall, scoring an impressive 28 points. The Eagles placed three runners in the Top 5 and five runners in the Top 10.
Glastonbury finished second (57), while Conard (116) was third.
Individually, Rockville’s Haley Hasty won the race in a time of 19 minutes and 17.16 seconds. Tolland’s Hayley Collins finished second (19:25.83) and teammate Katherine DeLoreto placed third (19:35.19).
On the boys’ side, Hall ran away with the title for the second year in a row with 40 points, while Glastonbury finished second (79) and Simsbury third (116).
Hall was led by Ari Klau, who won the race in an impressive time of 15 minutes and 44.39 seconds. This was the second straight CCC crown for Klau.
Glastonbury’s Randy Neish finished second (16:30.83), while Hall’s Grant O’Connor placed third (16:34.87).
Hall had three individuals in the Top 10.
The Hartford Courant reported four runners were treated for heat-related issues, and taken by ambulance.
