BETHEL >> Wednesday afternoon at Bethel, the Newtown girls cross country team placed four runners in the top 10 and finished with five in the top 20 to score 35 points and win the South-West Conference title.
Newtown was led by Sarah Mawdsley’s third place finish in 19 minutes and 34.22 seconds.

Pomperaug was second (51) and Immaculate was third (59).
Individually for the girls on the 5,000-meter course, Immaculate freshman Angela Saidman put on an impressive showing, crossing the line in first pace in 19:13.85.
On the boys’ side, New Milford claimed the SWC title with 56 points. New Milford had five runners in the top 20.
Pomperaug took second (86) and Brookfield was third (91).
Individual in the 5K race, Brookfield senior Tommy Consalvo won in 16:31.25.
