Well before there was GameTimeCT.com, there was (and still is) CPTV’s GAMETIME with John Holt and Joe Zone.
The WFSB sports anchors tirelessly race around Connecticut, covering as many games as possible for their Friday Night Frenzy show which airs (of course) on Friday nights on the WFSB Eyewitness News show.
But the guys don’t stop there. On Thursdays, the gang puts a great package together, bringing those highlights with interviews of coaches and players, and even get ‘expert’ analysis from some of the state’s high school football aficionados.
It’s a scene. And it’s the best high school football show in Connecticut right now. For those of us unable to watch CPTV Sports, the network has added the show to its YouTube Channel. Joy all around.
For their 2013 premier episode, Joe and John speak with Southington coach Mike Drury about his team’s 16-9 victory over Glastonbury. They speak with ‘legendary’ West Haven coach Ed McCarthy, who is still six victories from being the state’s all-time coaching leader.
They debut their ‘Power Poll,’ which is an amalgamation of the GameTimeCT/Register media poll and The Day of New London’s Coaches Poll.
Also: Valley rivals George French and Shelton’s Jeff Roy joined the show. French talked about his team’s thrilling 49-45 victory over St. Paul. Roy talks about his Gaels, who routed Trumbull 57-20 Week 1, and has an interesting clip of assistant Dan Dunaj instructing his players how to perform during a ‘score management’ game. (Dan’s facial expression is priceless).
