WELCOME to the FINAL episode of Courtside with Joe Morelli, your weekly podcast covering all things Connecticut boys basketball with GameTimeCT’s head beat writer with an assist from point guard (and GameTimeCT producer) Sean Patrick Bowley.
After yet another exciting weekend of championships at Mohegan Sun Arena, we return after a couple weeks off for an action-packed episode in which we break down everything that happened in the five boys basketball state finals.
We rap about everything that happened: The thrills, the spills, the chills, some of the best moments and performances, and — of course — we have a spirited discussion what the CIAC tournaments got right (plenty), and what they continue to get wrong (also plenty).
After breaking it all down, East Catholic coach Luke Reilly makes a follow-up appearance on the Courtside podcast after his team crowned itself the unanimous No. 1 team in the state after their 79-74 victory over Windsor in the Division I championship game. Reilly talks about the experience of winning Division I and how his nephew Joe Reilly and the team dealt with all the talk, how they played and how they meshed with transfer Jaylin Hunter to go on this title run.
