Coaches Theresa Napolitano, George Suitor, Mike Giovinazzo, George Beaudry (posthumuously), Michael J. Fritch, Gerry Chester, athletic director/coach Jonathan Capone, athletic director/coach David E. Schultz, former CAS-CIAC executive director Michael H. Savage and media member George DeMaio Jr. will be inducted.
Napolitano coached softball, field hockey, basketball and volleyball at St. Mary’s, Amity and Lauralton Hall beginning in 1985. She won five state championships in softball and another in field hockey at Amity in 1995. Napolitano was named National Coach of the Year in softball in 2014.
Capone was named director of athletics at West Haven High in 1999 and now serves as coordinator of health, physical education and athletics. He was also head baseball coach at West Haven from 1997-99. He was named CAAD Athletic Director of the Year in 2014.
DeMaio has been a broadcaster of high school sports in Connecticut since 1983 serving as Sports Director at WELI Radio, iHeartMedia Inc. He has earned many awards, including the Walter Camp Meritorious Service (1985) and the William E. Keish Recognition Award (2013). He has also garnered the CAAD Distinguished Service Award (2008) and was a CHSCA Assistant Coach of the Year in 2007 among other honors.
Giovinazzo coaches baseball and boys basketball at Bristol Eastern High School. Since 1975, he has 547 career victories in baseball and a Class L state championship in 1986. He has coached boys basketball since 1983, compiling 339 victories.
Savage became Executive Director of CAS-CIAC in 1988. Under his direction, CAS-CIAC membership extended to elementary schools, the CIAC Endowment Fund was created, the Scholar-Athlete banquet and the CIAC/Special Olympics Unified Sports Program was created, among many other accomplishments before his retirement in 2010.
Beaudry was the Conard wrestling coach from 1968-86 and the boys track coach from 1974-81. His teams compiled 282 victories combined, including five state wrestling championships.
Fritch coached boys soccer and girls basketball at Torrington and boys basketball at Wolcott Tech. He had a total coaching record of 732-354-40. He also served as Connecticut Soccer Coaches Association president from 2001-05.
Schulz has been Athletic Director at Fairfield Ludlowe since 2004. He also coached boys basketball for 19 years, winning the FCIAC boys basketball Coach of the Year award five times. He earned the CAAD Distinguished Service Award in 2012.
Chester coached boys cross country and boys track at Griswold and Ellis Tech from 1999-2008, compiling 453 total coaching victories and 17 state championships.
Suitor coached cross country at Manchester and East Catholic High Schools. He was named Connecticut High School Cross Country Coach of the Year in 1984.
