With its 63-6 victory over North Branford, Cromwell/Portland became the fourth team in Class S and the 14th team overall to clinch a CIAC football playoff berth.
Cromwell/Portland improved to 9-0 heading into its massive Thanksgiving Eve clash with Rocky Hill at Pierson Park.
A victory over Rocky Hill will clinch a home quarterfinal game while a loss could drop the Panthers as low as No. 7 or No. 8 in the Class S standings, depending on how the rest of the division shakes out.
Capital Prep and Ansonia have clinched home games already. Bloomfield is in line to clinch the third with a victory over Rocky Hill.
North Branford and Morgan were eliminated from Class S contention.
Elsewhere, Xavier kept its slim playoff hopes alive in Class LL with a 42-0 victory over Wilbur Cross. The Governors have been eliminated.
In Class M, Foran beat back a challenge from Creed/Career/WT to stay alive in that playoff race.
On Friday, Berlin can inch closer a Class M playoff spot with a victory over New Britain. Waterford must upset unbeaten and No. 10-ranked New London to keep its playoff hopes alive heading into Thanksgiving. If Berlin wins and Waterford loses, Berlin will clinch.
If either team loses, Hillhouse, Wolcott, Bunnell and Killingly will ALL clinch playoff spots in Class M, leaving just two spots available. Both Foran and Gilbert/Northwestern will remain alive.
St. Joseph and Valley Regional have already qualified.
