What to look for
Records could be set with some fast swimmers competing in this edition of the State Open. McKenna Dale of E.O. Smith will be a swimmer to watch in the 50 freestyle. She won the event at the recent Class L meet in a state record 23.17 seconds. She also is a favorite in the 100 freestyle. Another record setter competing is Sophie Angus of Weston. She set a state record in the Class S meet in the 100 breaststroke in 1:01.89. Kelly Montesi, one of the top Greenwich swimmers, is a favorite in the 100 butterfly. Kaki Christensen is one of the top Darien swimmers who is favored in the 200 individual medley. Locally, Cheshire has a pair of swimmers expected to do well. Elizabeth Boyer is one of the favorites in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly and Cameryn Guetens is a favorite in the 500 freestyle. Caitlin McNary, a team of one from Westbrook, is another favorite in the 100 freestyle. McNary was last season’s Register All-Area girls swimming MVP.
