Never a good thing when there is no chance that both of the top two teams in the state will both be at Mohegan for the State Championship.

  2. Brad Palmer says

    February 25, 2015 at 2:23 PM

Would have been nice for someone on the CIAC committee to put some pressure on CP to make up the game. Time for a better system of power rankings!

    • C-prep finest says

      February 25, 2015 at 7:05 PM

The New York team didn’t want to make up the game. They watched C-Prep put it on top ranked teams in the nation. Their not stupid they didn’t want to get blown out.

    • areacoach says

      February 26, 2015 at 9:21 AM

They’re* … Maybe the game didn’t fit into the NY team’s schedule anymore? They had to have known Cap Prep was going to be good when they scheduled them.

  3. Irish hoop says

    February 25, 2015 at 3:12 PM

Agree – It’s a shame the 2 best teams in the state won’t be meeting at Mohegan – time for a better system!!!!

  4. ciacfan says

    February 25, 2015 at 4:18 PM

    We need a system that:

    A. Allows teams to play more than 20 games if they want
    B. Doesn’t punish teams for having strong schedules
    C. Gives the 2 teams with the best resumes during the regular season a chance to meet at Mohegan.

New Jersey does a cool thing I just recently heard about, They have a mini mid season tournamnent. Play is on saturdays. You apply to get in the tournament ( optional ) . Seeding is grey but it provides the opportunity to play outside your division and league. I would like that.

  6. Just a high school fan says

    February 27, 2015 at 6:05 PM

It’s to bad. Farmington with the great season they had won’t b going to Mohegan sun. That’s what u play for. CIAC got this wrong. SAD..

    • Baker says

      March 1, 2015 at 6:11 PM

Well you can say the same for Hand. Hand is equal or perhaps better than Farmington, and they will most likey play CPrep in the Quarters. Fortunately, CPrep will be in LL when they win the L Class.

    • ciacfan says

      March 2, 2015 at 7:06 AM

      1. Hand is not as good as Farmington
      2. The way the CIAC rules work CPrep will never be LL, they will only be L based on enrollment. They are an S school and jump two levels due to success factor, can’t jump three levels.

    • hshoops fan says

      March 3, 2015 at 8:22 PM

agree on both ciac. Can only move up two classes, hence prep will remain a L school. Hand is very good, but loses to farmington by 5-10 pts

Good debate here. I also think it’s a shame that the seeding goes the way it does. The problem is, the alternative systems all have their problems as well. If it was a committee like the NCAA, there would be all kinds of complaints about the seedings, and bias, and whol is on the committee. If it was some kind of enhanced computer rankings, people wouldn’t like the formula, etc. At least with this system it is clear how it gets done.

I like that New Jersey mid-season tournament thing. I would like a way to have more competitive games among good teams during the season.

    • Fanatic says

      March 1, 2015 at 12:01 PM

The midseason tourney thing sounds good. It’s just not practical. Everyone would want to see it and the match-ups would be fun. BUT…Your never going to get the CIAC to approve more than 20 games before playoffs, some of the coaches may back out because of the possible losses affecting their seedings and most teams play on Friday nights. Asking them to turn around the next day and head out on the road to some tournament game would be a bit much on these kids. Although a fun idea. I just can’t see it happening ever.

    My picks for winners… LL – NFA, L – Capital Prep, M – Cromwell, S – ND-Fairfield

nfa is good, but they have a tought draw. they have a tough warde team in the 1/4, followed by sw or greenwich/ridgefield in the semis, thats not easy. Isee SW going down in the 1/4 to either ridge/greenwich

  9. Jason says

Weaver / cap prep rematch on horizon. Any updates on these forums from weaver coach this year? Did he read his book that was recommended to him last year? Running any plays this year coach?

  10. Playball says

    March 2, 2015 at 7:11 PM

This is High School Basketball. Does it really matter who is recruiting who? Private or public. Play basketball, regardless of schools recruiting who. It just doesn’t matter. If your a strong team, it really doesn’t matter where the players are from. D1 and D2 Coaches are not in high school gyms, unless following their recruit from AAU. High School basketball Is for fun. Potential college players need to showcase themselves in their AAU programs. Best players, stats, which schools recruit etc, etc, it’s not important. I know certain teams don’t even post their players stats on max preps. Just enjoy the journey, this is all for fun and really not that competitive. The competition is all over the country and truly tons of amazing players, especially in the south.
    Good luck to all.

High school sports are “really not that competitive”? Really?

  11. SCCFan says

    March 4, 2015 at 8:27 AM

Agree Hand would Lose to Farmington by 5-10 pts as they lost to Mercy by 10-15 twice. Great team though. Just like Conard takes Farmington to OT Mercy will beat them by 20 in round 2. Upset special Amity over everyone’s pick Ridgefield tonight! You heard it here first!

  12. Playball says

Area coach, no, it’s high school basketball, that doesn’t mean to say it’s not good or entertaining. Certainly no comparison to AAU basketball especially in other parts of the country. Makes sense that Cap Prep competes in other areas, why? Because the majority of their players are playing at a high level in AAU during the summer and are not challenged during the high school season. I’m not a Cap Prep parent, it’s simply a fact.
