The CIAC has docked Weaver three victories for the use of an academically ineligible player, head coach Reggie Hatchett told Hearst Connecticut Media Wednesday evening.
Hatchett wouldn’t divulge the name of the player but did say it was a reserve who played in five games, two of which were losses. Hatchett said the last game he was used was the win against Enfield Dec. 29.
Weaver self-reported the violation on Jan. 2. Hatchett, who noted it was an “administrative oversight,” said the CIAC informed the school of its decision on Wednesday. The Beavers must forfeit wins against Prince Tech, Pope Francis (Mass.) and Enfield. He didn’t play against Career on Dec. 27.
“I’m extremely disappointed for my seniors because they did nothing wrong,” Hatchett said. “This all but eliminates us from receiving a bye in the (CIAC) Division I state tournament.”
Weaver now has a 4-6 record with Wednesday’s win over Aerospace. The Beavers are 3-1 since 2019 began.
“If you look at our scores, we have stepped it up (since self-reporting the violation),” Hatchett said.
Prince Tech and Weaver have picked up wins and are now 7-1 and 4-4, respectively.
