The annual Central vs. Harding Thanksgiving Day football game was suspended with 5:03 remaining when shots were fired near Hedges Field at Harding School.
The Connecticut Post, citing police scanner reports, reported that t shots were fired at approximately 11:50 a.m at the corner of Boston and Central Ave. Police described five males wearing all black fleeing the scene. Teams returned to their locker rooms and spectators were escorted out of the stadium.
After a scoreless halftime, Jahzaari Mullings ran for a pair of touchdowns give Harding its 14-6 lead with 5:03 remaining, just as the shots were reportedly fired.
The game was suspended with Harding leading 14-6 and was completed Friday morning with Harding winning by the same score.
It was the first victory over Central since 1998. Harding leads the all-time series 51-38-4.
