For the first time since 1988, South Windsor reached the playoffs. The Bobcats even won the program’s first-ever playoff game, a 35-13 win over Nauagtuck in the Class LL quarterfinals.
It was a long time coming for the South Windsor program that had back-to-back 1-win seasons in 2013 and 2014.
Unfortunately, for the Bobcats they lost almost every single contributor from the team a year ago.
Over 20 seniors graduated, including quarterback Connor Kapisak, running backs Julian Ibes and James Tamburro, wide receiver Colin Ryan, linebacker Brandan Mabey and lineman Alex Valente and Dylan Hodge.
The lone contributing players from last season’s team are seniors Ronnie Pinkard and Royale Richards.
Pinkard rushed for 391 yards, second best, and six touchdowns, while making 68 tackles and seven sacks. Richards made 39 tackles and added two sacks.
South Windsor opens up its season vs. East Hartford, a team they beat to open last season.
With East Hartford, Glastonbury, Simsbury and Southington on its schedule, it could be a tough rebuilding campaign for the Bobcats.
