Brunswick School sailed away with the title at the Connecticut State Championship Regatta held at Captain’s Cove Seaport in Bridgeport on Saturday.
High winds limited the championship regatta to four races and the Bruins posted a near-perfect team score of five points, behind three first-place finishes and a second-place showing.
Choate Rosemary Hall placed second with a team score of 12 points, followed by Greenwich Academy (13), Fairfield Prep (17), Fairfield Ludlowe (27) and Greenwich High School (28). The regatta featured 13 teams.
In the A Division, senior Will Michels served as the skipper for Brunswick, with sophomore Will George crewing. The duo won two races against 12 other FJ boats, finishing with two points. The second race saw Michels and George capitalize big breeze to overtake Fairfield Prep near the finish line for the win.
Sophomore Leyton Borcherding skippered the Bruins’ boat in the B Division, with teammate George Coyle (senior) serving as crew. Following a victory in the first race, the duo were the runner-up to Choate in the second race.
Greenwich Academy had a second-place finish in the its first race in the A Division and placed fourth in the second race. In the B Division, GA took fourth in the opening race and third in the second. Grace Austin, Ellie Harned, Lily Shore and Naomi Pedersen represented the Gators in the regatta.
Greenwich High finished fourth in the opening race of the A Division, then took third in the second. The Carinals were seventh in the first race in the B Division. Max Anker, Aidan Iaconis, Hayden Cook and Gray Tella competed for GHS.
Brunswick, which sports a 19-0 record in team racing, returns to regular season competition on Wednesday.
