Brunswick School, ranked ninth in the latest Under Armour/Inside Lacrosse national poll, posted a season-opening 16-10 road win against Episcopal Academy on Thursday in Newtown Square, Pa. Michael Mauricio registered four goals, while Coulter Mackesy recorded a hat trick with two assists to pace the Bruins (1-0).
Liam Fairback and Koby Ginder scored two goals apiece for Brunswick, which held a 2-1 lead following the first quarter and an 8-4 halftime advantage.
Holding a 3-2 lead in the second quarter, Brunswick went on a three-goal spurt to take a 6-2 advantage at the 4:50 mark.
Brunswick used another three-goal run to open the third quarter, with Mackesy capping it by tallying at the 7:56 mark, making it 11-4. Trailing 15-7 in the waning minutes of the fourth quarter, Episcopal strung three goals together, to close to within 15-10. The Bruins’ Isaac Sacks netted the game’s final goal to seal the win.
Ginder won 16 of the 20 faceoffs he took for the victors. Henry Foster made 11 saves in his debut as goalie for the Bruins.
Luke Waters (one goal, two assists), Lucas Delgado (three assists), Brody Firestein (one goal), and Tomas Delgado (one goal) also paced Brunswick.
