In a battle of undefeated boys tennis teams, Staples pulled out a 4-3 win over Greenwich in a key, late-season FCIAC matchup held in Westport on Wednesday.
The undefeated Wreckers won three of the four singles matches. At first singles, Evan Felcher of Staples beat Justin Speaker, 6-4, 6-3. Second singles saw Greenwich’s Caleb Fockens beat Kion Bruono. 6-4, 6-2. Ben Stein of Staples won in three sets against Matthew Luzzi at third singles, while Eric Stein took a 6-2, 6-2 decision against Greenwich’s Matthew Tamis at No. 4.
In doubles play, Jack Tooker/Eric Greenberg of the Wreckers were victorious against Nick Liu/Hayden Witmer, 6-2, 6-2. Nick Dagnino/Alex Litt gave GHS a win at second doubles, 7-5, 6-4. At third doubles James Cosby/Jimmy Papas edge Staples’ Jamie Lamb/Andrew Saunders, 4-6, 6-4, (10-4).
