IN CASE YOU MISSED IT… Darien’s No. 1-ranked team in Connecticut, and No. 7-ranked team in the country (according to USA Today) pulled off the famous ‘hidden ball trick’ en route to a 9-5 victory over No. 2 (and No. 13th in the country) New Canaan and its 15th FCIAC Championship last Thursday at McMahon.
Darien was in the midst of a third-quarter run that turned a 3-2 halftime lead into 7-4 after three quarters when goalie Ryan Cornell and defenseman Rock Stewart deftly pulled off the trickery.
Cornell sold the fake in the backfield while Stewart nonchalantly took the ball across midfield and fed attackman Colin Minicus for the easy goal.
