Games to Watch
Cheshire at Branford (Northford Ice Pavilion), Wednesday, 4 p.m.: Two well-regarded Division II teams meet up, the defending-champion Hornets against Cheshire and its standout goalie Nick Maringola.
Fairfield Prep at Notre Dame-Fairfield (The Rinks at Shelton), Wednesday, 6:30 p.m.: The Jesuits have been off for a week and a half, returning to action (and to state competition) against the Lancers, who weren’t widely heralded at the start of the year but have put together a nice start.
Notre Dame-West Haven at Greenwich (Hamill), Wednesday, 6:45 p.m.: The No. 1 Green Knights travel down Interstate 95 for the first of two times this week to visit Greenwich, which got its first win Saturday against Immaculate.
Simsbury at Hamden (Astorino), Wednesday, 7 p.m.: Fresh off playing Notre Dame-West Haven tough at home over the weekend, Simsbury hits the road to face Hamden, which has scored two goals in the past two games after an unexpectedly strong offensive start.
WMRP at Hall/Southington (Veterans), Wednesday, 7:20 p.m.: WMRP was one of the Division II favorites at the start of the year, and the co-op has certainly fulfilled expectations through seven games, going 7-0 with three shutouts. Hall/Southington has won five in a row after an overtime loss to start the season.
Lancer Beanpot (The Rinks at Shelton), Friday, 7/9 p.m., Saturday, 2:30/4:30 p.m.: Prout (R.I.) faces host Notre Dame-Fairfield to start, with Archbishop Williams (Mass.)-St. Dominic (Maine) up next. The consolation and championship games are Saturday.
LaSalle Academy at Ridgefield (Winter Garden), Saturday, 12:40 p.m.: We joked all last winter about how LaSalle, playing five Connecticut teams, was stating its case for the top spot in the GameTimeCT poll. The joke’s only 80 percent as good this year: This is the first of four games against state competition. (OK, 80 percent of “not a good joke” is still not a good joke.)
Greenwich at Hamden (Astorino), Saturday, 2:15 p.m.: It’s not a top-10 matchup right now, as Greenwich slipped out, but it’s still an attractive matchup between two typically solid programs.
Northwest Catholic at New Canaan (Darien Ice House), Saturday, 3:50 p.m.: Always exciting to see a good north vs. south game, and this has the potential to be a fun one. The Lions’ lone loss to date came against Simsbury; they face Glastonbury on Wednesday.
Notre Dame-West Haven at Darien (Darien Ice House), Saturday, 6 p.m.: No. 1 vs. No. 3, teams that have played some good games against each other in past years and some good games this year against other teams.
Lyman Hall/H-K/Coginchaug at Watertown/Pomperaug (Taft), Saturday, 7:30 p.m.: They’re both under .500, but they both had big wins, LHK over Branford, Watertown/Pomperaug over Cheshire.
Greenwich at Darien (Darien Ice House), Monday, 6 p.m.: Darien won the Winter Classic on Dec. 28, 5-3, outside at the Greenwich Skating Club. They’ll come inside to play the league game.
