Diarra, a 6-foot-8 Queens (N.Y.) native who is a four-star recruit according to ESPN and a three-star recruit according to Rivals and Scoutt, chose UConn over VCU. He averages 9.9 points and 7.5 rebounds.
He is the first recruit of Kevin Ollie’s 2016 freshman class. The Huskies are also reportedly on the trail of teammate Hamidou Diallo, a guard in the class of 2017. Diallo told New Haven Register’s David Borges afterward if he could choose a school now, it would be UConn.
