Fairfield Prep coach Leo Redgate said guard Ryan Murphy is out for at least the regular season with a high ankle sprain he suffered against Hillhouse on Jan. 4.
Murphy, a sophomore starter who averaged 20.5 ppg. through his first six games, visited the doctor last week and his follow-up appointment is next week. Prep is set to conclude its regular season Feb. 20 against Career.
Redgate also said he thinks it is “50-50” Murphy could be done for the season.
“The most important thing is that Ryan is healthy,” Redgate said. “With a high ankle sprain, we don’t want it to linger. I’m confident that he is in a good state of mind. He’s very happy the team is performing well in his absence. He really wants to get back for the playoffs.”
The SCC tournament begins on Feb. 27. Prep, the state’s lone undefeated team, likely would receive a first-round bye into the quarterfinals on March 1. That would be seven weeks to the day since Murphy suffered the injury.
Prep has won 11 straight games in Murphy’s absence.
