March begins today, but we got a taste of March Madness last night with three great championship finals (CCC, FCIAC, SWC) that came down to the wire.
Naturally, I picked them all wrong and went 1-4 overall. So if I’m picking you tonight, or in the state tournament, you may have a problem. 71-25 overall.
No. 1 Prince Tech vs. No. 3 Abbott Tech: A nice job by Abbott Tech last night winning on the road at Wilcox Tech. Can Abbott pull off an even bigger seeded upset? It’s a tall order, but after last night, anything is possible. PRINCE TECH.
No. 4 Ellington at No. 1 Granby: Ellington pulled off the stunner, winning at top seed Classical Magnet in a game decided in the final seconds. Granby won in drmatic fashion as well. So would anyone be surprised if this game went down to the wire? Granby hasn’t lost at home, so…GRANBY.
No. 1 Wamogo vs. No. 3 Shepaug Valley: I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen an undefeated team lose in its league tournament. That’s what makes this time of year great. But this is a special Warriors’ club that wants to finish what it started before moving onto the Division III state tournament. WAMOGO.
No. 1 Cromwell vs. No. 2 Old Lyme: These two teams went down to the wire less than two weeks ago. Old Lyme was down double digits before roraring back to take the lead. That was at Cromwell. Tonight is a neutral site. Hey, why not…OLD LYME.
