Unless you’re a hoops junkie keeping tabs on this sort of thing, it’s been a while since we last heard from former Fairfield Prep guard Ryan Murphy — a little more than two years, to be exact.
He first went to Wilbraham and Monson Prep school in Massachusetts, where he played for a season as a sophomore before transferring again to Calabasas (Calif.) for what became his senior year. Murphy had grown up in Southern California before moving to Connecticut.
He led the Coyotes in scoring (over 1,300 points for the year) and was an all-league, all-region and first team California Division-3AA all-state selection.
The team went 26-8, reached the CIF 3AA Sectional Final Four and the Division 3 regional finals, the furthest in school history.
After the season, Murphy was considering reclassifying again to play at another prep school. But last week he reversed course and announced his commitment to UNC Charlottte — which actually goes by “Charlotte” — on Tuesday.
