Fairfield Warde will get a chance to defend its FCIAC baseball title. Though there was little chance the Mustangs would miss out (they were in a tie for sixth Trinity Catholic when the day began), Reece Maniscalco made sure of it Wednesday afternoon.
The junior pitcher threw Connecticut’s 15th no-hitter of the 2015 season in a 4-0 victory over Trumbull. He struck out 13 batters in 83 pitches. You can watch the final out, captured by Connecticut Post’s Doug Bonjour, above.
It was the second no-hitter of the season for Fairfield Warde’s baseball team. John Natoli no-hit McMahon on May 9.
In related FCIAC baseball news, Wilton and Trinity also qualified.
Norwalk lost to Staples, 9-0, and Darien lost to Ridgefield, 7-1. Coupled with a 9-8 victory by New Canaan over St. Joseph, the No. 1 seed will be determined on the final day of the regular season when Darien faces Norwalk. New Canaan is also in line to get the top seed if the Rams can beat Stamford.
Stamford would clinch the final playoff spot if it beats New Canaan. Otherwise, the winner of the Greenwich v. Trumbull game will capture the final spot.
