Female Athlete of the Week

Kaleigh Roberts, Mercy cross country

Senior won the SCC championship meet with a time of 18:37 at Hammonasset State Park.

“She was 10th as a freshman, sixth as a sophomore, second last year and now finally winning (SCC). She’s been up there all along, but this is her icing on the cake now.” – John Hastings, Mercy cross country coach.

Female athlete honor roll

  • Maddy Levy, Cheshire field hockey: Senior goalie posted two shutouts last week with seven saves in a 7-0 win over North Haven and three saves in a 6-0 win over Sacred Heart Academy.
  • Erin Daly, Platt Tech soccer: Sophomore scored all five goals against Capital Prep in consecutive days, a 5-2 loss and a 3-2 win.

Male Athlete of the Week

Harold Cooper, Hillhouse football

Senior rushed for 183 yards and two touchdowns to become the state’s sixth player to surpass 6,000 career yards in a 42-2 win over Sheehan.

Male Athlete Honor roll

  • Arkeel Newsome, Ansonia football: Senior Rushed for 396 yards and six touchdowns to become the state’s all-time leading rusher in a 56-21 win over Masuk.
  • Jason Thompson, Shelton football: Senior rushed for 303 yards and two touchdowns in Shelton’s 36-19 win over Wilbur Cross.
