TORRINGTON >> Ansonia’s Markell Dobbs ran for three touchdowns in the first seven minutes of a 50-0 Charger win at Torrington High School Friday night.
Dobbs, a 5-11, 172-pound junior, racked up 176 yards on just four carries in the first quarter as the Chargers put the game on ice with a 29-0 lead.
Dobbs carried just once more for a 181-yard night, but the Chargers had others who could chew the turf as well at the Robert H. Frost Sports Complex.
Fullback Malcolm Martin ran for 103 yards and a touchdown on seven carries in the first half, which, together with a 17-yard scoring pass from quarterback Bryson Cafaro in the first quarter, brought the halftime score to 36-0.
The quickness didn’t stop there. Michael Lewis picked up the running chores in the third quarter for 85 yards and a touchdown on five carries; fullback Nasir
Brown finished in the fourth with a four-yard scoring romp.
Worst of all, Torrington lost junior Brandon Reiff to a probable concussion late in the second quarter.
“We’re banged up,” said Torrington Coach Gaitan Rodriguez. “We did the best we could. Our young guys just have to have faith and keep coming to practice.”
Ansonia, too, is young.
“We’re getting better,” said Coach Tom Brockett. “I thought we executed well on offense and our run defense was good.”
