The best rivalry in arguably the best division in the SCC was a one-sided affair on Wednesday.
Amity scored five — five! — second-half goals to paste Cheshire 5-0 at home. A tremendous offensive performance, led by Cassie Giza’s three goals. She scored almost 90 seconds into the second half and Cheshire never responded.
Keeping the likes of Cheshire’s Alexandra Pelletier out of the scoring column is one thing. But to hold the Rams without a shot for the first 33 minutes of the second half is another. Amity was able to counter-attack on Cheshire to score its goals.
I couldn’t remember the last time Cheshire had given up five goals in a game — until Greg Lederer of the Cheshire Herald reminded me that Hamden’s Rachel Ugolik scored five goals by herself against Cheshire last season.
I imagine it should be an interesting rematch at Cheshire on Oct. 11.
