CIAC Class S Championships >> At New Haven, Coginchaug senior Jessica Drop captured two individual state titles while leading the Blue Devils to a runner-up finish against champion Bloomfield on Friday at the Floyd Little Athletic Center.
Drop won both the Women’s 1600 meter run (5:08) and the 1000 meter run (2:56.98). She also anchored the Blue Devils’ 1600 Sprint Medley Relay team, which won the Class S crown in 4:16.05. Cassandra Kovacs, Katherine D’Orvilliers, and Allie Alsup ran the first three legs of the winning sprint medley for Coginchaug.
Blue Devils senior Samantha Drop was the runner-up in the 1600 (5:13) and 3200 (11:11.79), while Alsup finished second in the 1000 (3:01.96).
Haddam-Killingworth’s 4×800 Meter Relay Team of Mary Coletti, Kelsey D’Amico, Lexie Bouthillier, and Maddie Brandon placed second in 10:03.96. Old Saybrook won the event in 10:03.62.
East Hampton’s Haley Wall was the runner-up in the pole vault (10-0).
Bloomfield won the title with 108 points, while second-place Coginchaug had 58 points.
On the boys side, Haddam-Killingworth senior Cameron Garrelts won two Class S titles. Garrelts captured the Men’s 1600 meter run (4:27.95) and the 3200 meter run (9:50.28). He was also the runner-up in the 1000 meter run (2:39.42).
Coginchaug senior Alec Bogen claimed the Class S Men’s High Jump championship. Bogen’s winning jump was 6-0.
The Blue Devils’ Jesse Nelson was the runner-up in the pole vault (11-0).
SCC Championship >> At Milford, Mercy finished third in the Southern Connecticut Conference gymnastics meet Friday night at Law High School. The Tigers scored 125.85 points, finishing behind 8-time champion Hand (135 points) and Law (128 points).
Ella Gibson finished 7th in the All-Around, while Quincy Plat was 9th for Mercy. Gibson and Platt were named to the All-SCC team.
Portland 56, Hale Ray 30 >> At Moodus, sophomore Dianta Highsmith had a game-high 17 points and Jake Kostraba added 15 points to lead the visiting Highlanders (3-12) to a Shoreline win on Friday night.
Connor Egan had 11 points and Evan Lorentson and DJ White each had seven points for the Noises (1-12).
Valley Regional 68, North Branford 59 >> At Deep River, senior forward Nash Eppard posted a double-double with 26 points and 13 rebounds to lift the host Warriors. Jordan Moran collected 17 points and five assists as Valley improved to 7-10.
Brett LeQuire had 24 points and Jimmy Augur added 18 points for the T-birds (3-12).
Mercy 62, West Haven 38 >> Destine Perry scored 14 points and Mariah Dunn had 13 points to lift the visiting Tigers to a SCC win on Friday.
Samantha Gallo chipped in 11 points for second-ranked Mercy (18-1), which built a 40-18 halftime lead.
Jaymesha Sanders had a game-high 15 points for the Blue Devils (2-17).
East Hampton 66, Hyde 28 >> Gyanna Russell scored a game-high 16 points as the host Bellringers won their seventh straight on Friday.
Natalie Moon had 14 points and Meghan Orbann added 13 points for East Hampton (16-2).
Nyjayah Gibson tallied 14 points for the Howling Wolves (0-16).
