The first annual Robert Saulsbury Basketball Invitational will be held Saturday at Wilbur Cross High School with a basketball tripleheader.
Celentano Middle School takes on Troop Middle School to start the day at noon, followed by West Haven High vs. Sheehan at 1:30 p.m. Wilbur Cross concludes the day by hosting Harding at 3:30 p.m.
The tournament is named after the former longtime Cross coach of 28 seasons. Saulsbury won 497 games and nine state championships during his tenure.
Following the West Haven-Sheehan game, four people will be honored: former longtime Harding coach Charlie Bentley, who retired with 655 victories; current Career coach and former Lee High and Syracuse University standout Larry Kelley; former West Haven coach Reggie Hayes and Doug Bethea, founder of the nation’s drill team and a community activist.
Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for students. All proceeds to benefit The Robert H. Saulsbury Scholarship Fund. Call (203)376-1385 for further information.
