Most Valuable Player
Fairfield Prep, Sr., D
Stats: A big reason the Jesuits limited opponents to just over seven goals a game. The Jesuits went 17-4 overall and advanced to the CIAC Class L semifinals.
Honors: U.S. Lacrosse All-American and recipient of the U.S. Lacrosse Bob Scott Award, which recognizes players who go above and beyond in service to his team, school and community. First team All-SCC and Class L All-State.
Off the field: National Honor Society, also plays football.
Up next: Will play lacrosse at the U.S. Naval Academy after spending a year at the Naval Academy Prep School.
Coach of the Year
Stats: Guided the Jesuits to a 13-0 record against SCC opponents including a 12-11 win in overtime against Guilford in the SCC tournament final. It was the Jesuits’ 12th SCC title. The Jesuits ended up 17-4. Became the fourth CIAC boys lacrosse coach to reach 400 career wins (404-156).
Honors: Five-time All-Area Coach of the Year, inducted into the Connecticut Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2014.
North Haven, Sr., GK
Stats: Averaged less than six goals-against per game with 104 goals allowed in 18 games. He led . He allowed 260 career goals as a four-year starter. Best game was an 18-save performance in a 12-2 win over East Lyme in the Class M first round.
Honors: SCC All-Academic team 2013-2016, selected for Senior All-Star game.
Off the field: Spanish Honor Society, Art Honor Society, also plays hockey.
Up next: Will attend UConn to play lacrosse and study athletic training.
Cheshire, Jr., Attack
Stats: One of the top playmakers in the area with 33 goals and 64 assists. There were six games where he had eight or more points. Has 84 career goals and 114 assists.
Honors: First team All-SCC, offensive MVP for Cheshire High.
Off the field: Also plays soccer and has been named captain for next season’s wrestling team.
Up next: Verbally committed to play lacrosse at Merrimack.
Guilford, Sr., GK
Stats: Ended up with nearly a .600 save-percentage with 200 saves. The four-year starter led Guilford to the SCC tournament final. The Indians advanced to the Class M quarterfinals and finished 14-6.
Honors: Two-time first team All-SCC and second team Class M All-State selection.
Up next: Will play lacrosse at Manhattan College.
Branford, Sr., D
Stats: One of the top ground ball specialists with over 100 ground balls each season as a four-year starter. Honors: First team All-SCC and Class M All-State selection.
Off the field: David Hwang Memorial scholarship, graduated top 20 percent in his class, volunteer for youth football and lacrosse, defensive standout for the Hornets football team as a three-year starter.
Up next: Will attend Keene State.
Hand, Sr., M
Stats: One of the top face-off specialists in the state. Won nearly 80 percent of his face-offs before suffering a shoulder injury in the team’s 15th game of the regular season against Guilford and missed the rest of the season.
Honors: First team All-SCC and Class M All-State selection.
Off the field: Also played football.
Up next: Will play lacrosse at Stony Brook.
Guilford, Sr., M
Stats: Had 64 goals and 43 assists and led the Indians to a 14-6 record. Finished this season with a single-season school record 107 points. A four-year starter for the Indians.
Honors: All-American, two-time All-Area, two-time first team All-SCC and Class M All-State pick.
Off the field: His dad Anthony is a former Guilford boys coach and coached men’s lacrosse at Quinnipiac and Southern Connecticut State.
Up next: Will play lacrosse at Southern Connecticut State.
Xavier, Jr., M
Stats: One of the top scorers for the Falcons, he led them to a 12-6 record and to the first round of the Class L tournament. He routinely was a multiple scorer in each game throughout the season.
Honors: Two-time All-Area, first team All-SCC, second team Class L All-State selection.
Off the field: Also plays football.
Up next: Has committed to play lacrosse at Loyola.
Hand, Sr., Attackman
Stats: One of the top scorers for the Tigers. He led them to a 13-8 record and the CIAC Class M final. Had two goals and three assists in a 16-0 win over Pomperaug in the Class M quarterfinals and three goals and an assist in an 8-7 win over New Fairfield in the Class M semifinals.
Honors: First team CHSCA Class M All-State selection.
Hamden Hall, Jr., M
Stats: Had 54 goals and 12 assists and led his team to the semifinals of both the Fairchester and New England tournaments.
Honors: Three-time All-FAA and All-WNESLA, named last season’s WNESLA Division II Offensive Player of the Year, three-time All-Area, selected a Brine All-American.
Off the field: National Honor Society member.
Up next: Has verbally committed to play football and lacrosse at Brown.
Hopkins, Sr., D
Stats: His speed and quickness for his 6-foot-5, 205-pound size made him an exceptional 1-on-1 defender.
Honors: U.S. Lacrosse All-American, Hopkins Dorrance Award for achievement, leadership and character in men’s athletics, All-WNESSLA and All-FAA.
Off the field: Cum Laude Society, Connecticut Dunkin’ Donuts Franchisee Schoalrship winner, AP Scholar, National Merit finalist, 2016 Hopkins Senior Fellow, boys soccer four-year starter, Level 1 Certified Junior Sailing instructor at Guilford Yacht Club, competitive sailor.
Up next: Will play lacrosse at Wesleyan.
Notre Dame-WH, Jr., M
Stats: Scored 30 goals and had 36 assists including four goals and three assists in a 12-5 win over Brookfield in the first round of the Class M tournament.
Honors: First player at school to be named first team coaches all-state in lacrosse, two-time first team All-SCC, first team All-State in three sports this past school year in boys lacrosse, indoor track and football, two-time football All-Area and All-State, selected Register’s Male Athlete of the Year.
Off the field: National Honor Society, Peer Counseling.
Up next: Made a verbal commitment to play lacrosse at Cornell.
Fairfield Prep, Jr., Attack/Midfield
Stats: Had 56 goals and 30 assists and led the Jesuits to a 17-4 record and the CIAC Class L semifinals. He had four goals and an assist, including the game-winning goal with less than a minute in regulation, in an 11-10 win over Greenwich in the Class L quarterfinals.
Honors: First team All-SCC and Class M All-State pick.
Off the field: Summa Cum Laude student, mentor for the Kennedy Center, which offers services for children and adults with diverse disabilities.
Up next: Has committed to play lacrosse for Richmond.
Fairfield Prep, Sr., M
Stats: Had 43 goals and 25 assists. Scored the game-winning goal in a 12-11 overtime win over Guilford in the SCC tournament final. Ended up with 95 goals and 63 assists in his career.
Honors: Two-time All-Area, first team All-SCC and Class L All-State, played in the Connecticut Senior All-Star game.
Off the field: Plays hockey and volunteers as a lacrosse coach for Bridgeport Youth Lacrosse.
Up next: Will play lacrosse at Union College.
Hand, Sr., M
Stats: Scored 24 goals and led the Tigers to a 13-8 record.
Honors: Three-time All-Area, first team All-SCC and Class M All-State selection.
Off the field: Three-year football starter.
