Stats: Had 36 goals and 28 assists. Also excels on defense. Showcased his talent in the CIAC Division II tournament with four goals, including two on redirected shots, in a 5-1 win over Guilford in the semifinals and the game-winning goal in overtime, and two assists, in a 4-3 win over North Branford in the final.
Honors: First team All-FCIAC, FCIAC MVP, first team CHSCA D-II All-State, CHSCA Division II MVP, CIAC Player of the Year, MSG Varsity All-Connecticut first team.
Off the ice: Also plays lacrosse.
Coach of the Year
Stats: After winning the CIAC Division I title in 2015 the Blue Wave didn’t miss a beat with first-year coach Budd, who replaced 2014-15 Register State Coach of the Year Chris Gerwig.
Depth, talent on both ends of the ice and a solid goalie (David Voigt) combined to lead Darien to a second straight title. Jay Dickson had a pair of goals and Voigt had 17 saves to lead Darien to a 4-2 win over Fairfield Prep in the CIAC D-I final. Darien also beat Prep twice in the regular season. Darien finished the season 21-4.
Honors: Budd was named MSG Varsity Connecticut Coach of the Year. Darien was a unanimous No. 1 selection in the season’s final Register/GameTimeCT Top 10 Hockey Poll.
Woodstock Academy, Jr., F
Stats: Led the state with a school record 56 goals and 43 assists for 99 points. Led his team to the CIAC Division III semifinals and a 20-4 record. Despite the 6-5 overtime loss to Staples/Weston/Shelton in the D-III semifinal, he believes it was his best game of the season. He had a hat trick in the second period to give his team a 4-3 lead.
Honors: First team All-Nutmeg Conference, CHSCA D-III first team All-State and CHSCA D-III MVP.
Off the ice: Spanish National Honor Society, Scholar Athlete Honor Society, member of the student council, also plays soccer and golf and earned the 2015 CIAC sportsmanship award.
Up next: Plans to major in engineering or finance at a yet-to-be-decided college.
Fairfield Prep, Sr., F
Stats: Had 30 points and led the Jesuits to the SCC/SWC Division I tournament championship. The Jesuits advanced to the CIAC Division I final. Blanchette’s best game came in the D-I quarterfinal when he scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over Xavier. Prep finished No. 2 in the Register Top 10 poll.
Honors: All-SCC/SWC first team, CHSCA D-I first team All-State.
Off the ice: Involved with community service at the boys and girls club in Shelton.
North Branford, Sr., F
Stats: The center ended up with 22 goals and 33 assists and also excelled on defense. Had two goals and an assist in a 7-4 win over Guilford in the SCC Division II tournament final. One of his best games was against Guilford when he had four goals and two assists.
Honors: Named the SCC D-II tournament most outstanding player, CHSCA first team All-State, second team All-SCC.
Off the ice: National Honor Society, boys lacrosse captain, also plays soccer.
Up next: Will attend Quinnipiac where he hopes to play club hockey.
Guilford, Sr., F
Stats: Had a career best 27 goals and 42 assists and finished his career as the school’s second all-time leading scorer with 62 goals and 79 assists. Best game was in a 6-5 overtime comeback win where he had a natural hat trick. Led the Indians to a 15-6-2 record.
Honors: SCC Division II Player of the Year, first team All-SCC, first team CHSCA All-State, Guilford Hobey Baker Award.
Off the ice: National Honor Society, History Club president, Business Club president, St. George Church Peer Ministry.
Up next: Will attend Providence College.
Notre Dame-West Haven, Sr., F
Stats: The Hamden resident was one of the clutch players for the Green Knights. Scored the game-winning goal against Northwest Catholic in overtime on the day his father Lou died. Had 10 goals and 18 assists.
Honors: CHSCA Division I first team All-State and CHSCA D-I Player of the Year, first team All-SCC and SCC MVP.
Off the ice: Honor roll student and Special Olympics volunteer.
New Fairfield/Immaculate, Jr., G
Stats: Led NFI to a 21-4 record with a 1.7 goals-against average, eight shutouts and 27 goals allowed. Led NFI to a 5-2 win over Brookfield/Bethel/Danbury in the SCC/SWC Division III tournament championship game. One of his shutouts came in a 1-0 win over Bolton/Coventry/Rockville in the CIAC D-III quarterfinals.
Honors: All-SCC/SWC, All-State pick.
Off the ice: Plays lacrosse for Immaculate.
Darien, Sr., F
Stats: Had 19 goals and 24 assists including five game-winning goals. Led the Blue Wave to their second straight CIAC Division I title scoring a goal in a 4-2 win over Fairfield Prep in the final. Had three assists in a 4-0 win over Notre Dame-West Haven in the semifinals.
Honors: First team All-FCIAC, first team CHSCA D-I All-State, MSG Varsity Connecticut Player of the Year, first team All-MSG Varsity Connecticut.
Off the ice: National Honor Society, co-president Youth Asset Team, volunteers as a buddy for the Challenger Baseball program for special needs children, plays lacrosse and has won two FCIAC and state championships.
Up next: Will attend Westminster School where he will play hockey and lacrosse.
Darien, Sr., D
Stats: Led the Blue Wave to a 21-4 record. Had 15 goals and 21 assists, including three game-winning goals. Made three trips to the CIAC D-I finals and the Blue Wave had an 85-14-5 record.
Honors: First team All-FCIAC, second team CHSCA D-I All-State, MSG Varsity All-Connecticut first team.
Off the ice: Also plays golf. Finalist in the Rhode Island Junior Amateur and winner of the New England Junior Amateur last summer.
Up next: Will continue to play golf and hockey as a post grad at Westminster School.
Fairfield Prep, Sr., F
Stats: Had 18 goals and 11 assists, leading the Jesuits to the CIAC Division I final. One of his best games was in the D-I semifinals where he had two goals and an assist in a 5-2 win over Hamden.
Honors: Named second team All-SCC.
Off the ice: Volunteers for the Norwalk Grassroots Tennis Tutoring program.
Up next: Plans to attend prep school.
Hamden, Sr., D
Stats: Had six goals and 12 assists, switching from forward to defense five games into the season. The move helped Hamden defeat favored Greenwich 3-2 in OT in the Division I quarterfinals. Played in every game since he was a freshman.
Honors: First team All-SCC/SWC, first team CHSCA D-I All-State selection.
Off the ice: Captain of the Hamden golf team.
Up next: Will attend Bryant University where he will study finance.
Darien, Sr., G
Stats: Had a 1,70 goals-against average and six shutouts. Led the Blue Wave to their second straight CIAC Division I title, allowing just four goals and posting two shutouts. Best game was in a 4-0 shutout over Notre Dame-West Haven in the D-I semifinals where he had 31 saves.
Honors: Second team All-FCIAC, MSG Varsity All-Connecticut honorable mention, Darien High Coaches Award.
