Stats: Averaged 29.0 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.0 assists for the NVL and Class M state champions. Finished with 2,056 career points in just three seasons.
Honors: Two-time Player of Year, three-time All-State, All-NVL and coaches all-state pick. Billy Finn Award and Connie Donahue Award recipient. Selected to play in the JCC Schoolboy Classic, the Kentucky Derby Festival and the 2016 Ballislife All-American Game.
Up next: Will play at Auburn next season.
Coach of the Year
Stats: Led Hillhouse to a 25-3 record, the SCC Hammonasset Division title, runner-up for the SCC tournament title and the school’s 23rd state championship, defeating Weaver in the Class LL final. Has compiled a 141-19 record, including the 2013 Class LL championship, the 2012 LL final and SCC titles in 2011 and 2013.
Honors: Also named Area Coach of the Year in 2013.
Notre Dame-WH, 5-8, Sr., G
Stats: Averaged 19.1 points, five rebounds and five assists per game for the Green Knights, Class L state quarterfinalists. Surpassed 1,000 career points in the state tournament. Won or tied game with a free throw with 1 second or less remaining three times this season.
Honors: All-SCC Quinnipiac Division and New Haven County All-Tap-Off Club team selection.
Off the court: All-SCC Academic Team.
Up next: Considering playing at either Roger Williams and Colby Sawyer.
BYRON BRELAND III
Hillhouse, 6-2, So., G-F
Stats: Averaged 14.1 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.0 steals for the Class LL state champions.
Honors: All-SCC Hammonasset Division selection and second team coaches Class LL all-state pick. Team MVP in the Martin Luther King Classic game against Bassick.
Off the court: Twice named student of the month. Has a 3.3 grade point average. Also plays football and competes in outdoor track and field.
East Catholic, 6-2, Sr., G
Stats: Averaged 20.0 points, 5.0 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game for the Central Connecticut Conference and Class L state tournament champions. Scored a career-best 40 points versus Hartford Public. Started in the Eagles’ 2014 Class M championship game win over Weaver.
Honors: Two-time All-CCC and coaches all-state selection.
Up next: Will play at the University of San Diego next season.
Weaver, 6-2, Sr., G
Stats: Averaged 17.7 points, 3.1 assists and 2.3 rebounds for the Class LL state tournament finalists. Played in four straight state finals. Became the school’s all-time leading scorer, surpassing Mike Williams, with 2,005 points.
Honors: Three-time All-CCC and two-time Register All-State selection. Played in the JCC Schoolboy Classic.
Up next: Will play at Putnam Science Academy next season.
Sacred Heart, 6-8, Sr., F
Stats: Averaged 20.2 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game for the Naugatuck Valley League and Class M state champions. Finished with 1,352 career points.
Honors: All-NVL and coaches all-state selection.
Up next: Will play at UMass next season.
Hillhouse, 6-0, Jr., G
Stats: Averaged 14.8 points, 5.0 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 4.0 steals per game for the Class LL state champions and SCC tournament finalists.
Honors: Two-time All-Area, All-SCC Hammonasset Division and New Haven Tap-Off Club selection. Coaches Class LL all-state pick.
Fairfield Prep, 6-0, Sr., G
Stats: Averaged 20.2 points, 8.0 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game for the SCC tournament champions and the Class LL state tournament semifinalists. Tied a school record with seven 3-pointers in a game.
Honors: Two-time All-Area selection. New Haven Register Area MVP. SCC and MSG Varsity Player of the Year.
Off the court: Honors student and volunteers at Spooner House, a homeless shelter in his native Shelton.
Up next: Will spend a prep year at Cheshire Academy.
Hand, 6-1, Sr., F
Stats: Averaged 22.5 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. Made 58 3-point shots this season and scored 901 points in just two seasons.
Honors: Two-time All-SCC Hammonasset Division selection. New Haven Tap-Off Club and coaches all-state pick.
Off the court: Honor student.
Up next: Considering Franklin & Marshall and Scranton among others for basketball next season.
East Catholic, 6-4, Jr., G
Stats: Averaged 19 points, six rebounds, four blocked shots and four assists for the Central Connecticut Conference and Class L state tournament champions. Posted a quadruple-double against E.O. Smith during the regular season.
Honors: All-CCC (top vote getter) and coaches all-state selection.
Up next: Already has received significant interest from Hartford and Sacred Heart.
Off the court: Has a 2.7 GPA.
Windsor, 6-6, Sr., F-C
Stats: Averaged 18 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks per game for the Warriors, who went undefeated during the regular season and reached the Class L state tournament semifinals.
Honors: All-Central Connecticut Conference selection.
Up next: Likely headed to prep school next fall.
Newington, 6-1, Jr., G
Stats: Averaged 21.3 points and 7.3 assists for Newington, which achieved its best record in school history (24-2). The school’s all-time leading scorer with 1,323 points. Holds the single-season records for points (550) and assists (185).
Honors: Three-time Alll-Central Connecticut Conference and two-time coaches all-state selection.
