  1. Ball Don't Lie says

As is the norm in Shelton, Coach Gardiner satisfied with yet another loss.I guess when you set the bar at 8 wins as your goal for the season a 9 point loss is great. The town people and players have accepted losing as a way of life in shelton.6 years of losing basketball with this current staff…Almost 50 games under .500 38-86….I have to ask you SPB how many other towns would accept this record playing one of the worse schedules in the state each year?

  2. Vance says

In all fairness it does seem that Shelton loses a decent athlete or 2 every year to St. Joe’s. Put those kids in the orange and black and you’re probably a .500 or better program on a consistent basis.

  3. gobballfan says

To Vance… Just about every Public school loses good athletes to Private schools every year. Shelton, Trumbull, Branford, EH, Hamden, Fairfield all have star athletes playing at Prep, St Joes, NDWH, etc. It’s not excuse for mediocrity.

  4. Rob (OCEC) says

I thought it was humorous at Ledyard VS Norwalk last night there were coaches in the stands from Colleges as well as prep schools. Norwalk had a pair of underclassmen with size and skill who someone (a fan I think) said too bad they wouldn’t be back at Norwalk next year. They stated that most likely a prep school will scoop them up.

  5. Ball Don't Lie says

@DaveK,You know who the two kid’s are.The big kid could of helped Shelton if he stayed. He was projected to be much bigger and has struggled to take the FCIAC by storm. The other player has been to ND-Joes and would not even play much at Shelton.I agree with GOBBfan every town loses players every year to privates. No excuses a bad coach with Shelton’s weak schedule should win 11-12 games a year.

    • dave k says

Actually the kid has grown I walked past him an he is a lot taller than the S joes roster claims. My guess would be 6-5. It doesn’t matter though with the present coaching staff Shelton would still not win.

  6. Eastie parent says

SPB,how does Shelton keep a coach with a record like that and our town fires coach Reynolds who everyone believed in.

  7. JC says

Still need players. Greenwich has 2 kids that will play in college next year and Shelton has none. That was the difference. Definitely should have won at least 2 more games this year but I don’t see a difference between Shelton and Trumbull or Masuk or Newtown who are all in the same basic area and similar in school size. Who was the last SHS player to play in college?

  8. The Big Dog says

JC you need a good coach to get kids to the next level. You ever wonder why the MS,frosh and Jv teams always have winning records and then can’t beat anyone at the Varsity level? You must be on the coaching staff? My daughter was a cheerleader here for 4 years.I watched the football team although undermanned in most games figure out a way to win at least 7 of their 10 games every year.Solid coaching and getting the kids to believe they can win…Agree with these other posts the hoop coach’s are a joke and should all be fired.

    • JC says

Hard to compare sports but since you brought it up what signature win does the football team have in the last 5 years?

    • JC says

      Trumbull last 4 years 8-12, 2-18, 10-10 and 7-13, Newtown 12-8, 8-12, 9-11 and 10-10, Masuk 4-16, 9-11, 9-11 and 14-6, Shelton 9-11, 7-13, 8-12 and 4-16. 4 local schools, similar sizes, similar kids, 3 different leagues and only 2 winning seasons out of 16. Why all the hate for Shelton Hoops?

  9. Finn Fanatic says

@JcThe difference between the football and basketball team is we actually beat Guilford,Amity,Sheehan,LH,EH,Foran,Cheshire on a regular basis. Also, trumbull plays an FCIAC schedule compared to a Division 2 schedule the SCC has for Shelton. If you add up Newtons and Masuk’s win totals they have 10+ more wins than the Gaels…Conigs, want any more info?

  10. JC says

The info you are leaving out is the teams they need to beat (X, WH, FP, Hand) they don’t beat. And isnt the Shelton Freshman football team always very good? The football team is obviously better comparatively than the basketball team. But they have many of the same issues the basketball team has, they don’t beat good teams and the freshman team usually has the best record of the 3 teams.
