OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Ansonia’s Arkeel Newsome: Rushed for 222 yards and four touchdowns and also caught a touchdown pass in a 48-7 win over Woodland in the NVL championship game on Wednesday.

Law’s Tim Maher: Rushed for 142 yards on 24 carries and scored four times in a 36-20 victory over Plainfield on Thursday.

Morgan’s Jake Ward: Rushed for 345 yards and five touchdowns in a 40-16 win over SMSA/University on Friday.

Newtown’s Cooper Gold: Rushed 27 times for 165 yards and two touchdowns in a 28-7 win over Brookfield in the SWC championship game on Thursday.

New Canaan’s Nick Cascione: Finished with 119 rushing yards and 141 passing yards and three touchdowns in a 31-20 victory over St. Joseph in the FCIAC championship game on Friday.

DEFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Ansonia’s Tajik Bagley: Made an interception and recovered a fumble in a 48-7 victory over Woodland in the NVL championship game on Wednesday.

Newtown’s Jaret DeVellis: Made four sacks in a 28-7 victory over Brookfield in the SWC championship game on Thursday.

Old Saybrook/Westbrook’s Chance Brockett: Scored on a 45-yard interception return in a 41-22 victory over Stafford/East Windsor on Friday.

Sheehan’s Bruce Rutkowski: Made eight tackles and two interceptions, including one he returned 35 yards for a touchdown, in a 49-13 win over Branford on Friday.

TEAMS OF THE WEEK

Ansonia: Defeated Woodland 48-7 on Wednesday to win the NVL championship.

Morgan: Defeated SMSA/University 40-16 on Friday to help clinch a Class S playoff berth.

New Canaan: Defeated St. Joseph 31-20 on Friday to win the FCIAC championship.

Newtown: Defeated Brookfield 28-7 on Thursday to win the SWC championship.

New London (8-2) at Norwich Free Academy (8-1), Thursday, 10 a.m.: According to the Connecticut high school record book, these teams have played 151 times since 1875, which is a national record for oldest rivalry and most games.

West Haven (9-1) at Fairfield Prep (8-2), Thursday, 10 a.m.: A Fairfield Prep victory will earn the Jesuits a Class LL playoff berth.

Darien (9-1) at New Canaan (11-0), Thursday, 10:30 a.m.: New Canaan is already in the Class L field; Darien trying to book a spot of its own. Blue Wave are likely in even with a loss here.
