2014 NH County All-Area Girls Indoor Track Team

Danae Rivers – AREA MVP
Wilbur Cross, So., middle distance

Stats: Won the SCC, Class L and State Open 1,600 meter title. Set a state record in 1,600 (4:52.29). Won the New England mile title and finished fourth at New Balance Nationals in the mile (4:48.59). Part of winning SCC, Class L and Open sprint medley relay. Placed second in SMR at nationals (4:02.68). Ran on 4×800 relay team. Led Cross to SCC and Open team titles.
Honors: All-State, SCC championship meet MVP.
Off the track:
Achieved High Honors with Distinction.

Travis Gale – AREA COACH OF YEAR
Wilbur Cross

Stats: The first-year head coach led the Governors to an SCC championship and the program’s first State Open title since 2004. Cross finished runner-up at the Class L state meet. Had five athletes compete at the New Balance Indoor Nationals.

Anna Atkinson
Branford, Sr., hurdles/jumps

Stats: Won the SCC and Class L (8.60) 55 hurdles titles. Placed fifth at the State Open. Won the SCC high jump title and placed fourth at the L meet.
Honors: All-West Sectional, All-SCC, All-State.
Off the track: Second-team All-State in volleyball, member of the school’s National Honor Society and student council.
Up next: Will compete at Boston College.

Samantha Bailey
Shelton, Sr., shot put

Stats: Class LL champion in shot put (37-07), placed second at SCC championships and third at State Open. Has a personal record of 38-5.5.
Honors: Team MVP, school record holder.
Off the track: French National Honor Society and CAPT Scholar.
Up next: Considering Towson, Hood College and Franklin Pierce.

Shea Connors
Wilbur Cross, Sr., sprints

Stats: Part of SCC, Class L and State Open champion in the sprint medley relay. Placed second at New Balance Nationals in the SMR in 4:02.68. Member of 4×400 Class L and Open winning relay. Helped lead Cross to SCC and Open team titles.
Honors:
All-State, High Honors with Distinction.
Off the track:
Played soccer for Cross.
Up next:
Will play soccer at St. John’s.

Destiney Coward
East Haven, Sr., shot put

Stats: SCC West Sectional, SCC, Class M and State Open champion. Finished third at New England meet (39-07.25).
Honors: All-State, school record holder in shot put and captain.
Off the track: Vice President of HOSA chapter, Historian of Science Club.
Up next: Considering Southern Connecticut State, St. John’s, UMass-Amherst.

Gabby Curtis
Wilbur Cross, So., hurdles/sprints

Stats: Placed second at SCC championships, Class L and third at State Open (8.59) in 55 hurdles. Was part of winning SCC, Class L and Open sprint medley relay. Finished second at New Balance in SMR (4:02.68). Member of 4×400 relay and helped lead Cross to SCC and Open team championship.
Honors: All-State selection.
Up next: Competing in outdoor track.

Jessica Drop
Coginchaug, So., middle distance

Stats: Class S champion in 1,000, fifth at State Open. Set meet record at Shoreline Conference Championships in 1,000 (3:03.28). Ran in 4×400 and 4×800 relays.
Honors: Team MVP.
Off the track: Participates in Quiz Bowl and Best Buds.

Kiran Khosla
Old Saybrook, Jr., sprints

Stats: Set a Shoreline Conference record in the 600 (1:41.47) and was part of the first-place 4×200 relay. Won the Class S 600 title.
Honors: All-State, High-Honors.
Off the track: Part of student council, science club, ecology club, National Honor Society and Goodwin Buddies (mentoring).

Caroline O’Neil
Hand, Fr., sprints

Stats: Placed first in the SCC championship meet in the 300 and finished second in the 55. Captured third in the 55 at Class L, fourth in 300. Placed fourth in 55 (7.35) and ninth in 300 (42.04) at State Open.
Off the track: Involved in soccer, lacrosse and band. Member of the school’s High honor roll.

Leah Pfrommer
Haddam-Killingworth, Sr., jumps/sprints

Stats: Won the Shoreline 55, 300 and long jump titles. Was Class S long jump champion and won the State Open with a leap of 18 feet.
Honors: All-State in long jump, all-conference in 55, 300 and long jump.
Off the track: Spanish Honor Society.
Up next: Committed to Quinnipiac for track.

Zoie Reed
Amity, Jr., sprints/jumps

Stats: Won the SCC East Sectional, SCC and Class LL long jump title and took third in the event at the Open. Placed second in 55 at LL. Was part of winning SCC 4×400 relay team.
Honors: All-SCC, All-State.
Off the track: Elected captain for 2014 girls soccer season.

Kaleigh Roberts
Mercy, Sr., distance runner

Stats: Won the SCC West Sectional and SCC championships in 1,000 and 3,200. Won Class L 3,200 (10:58.29), setting a state record in the process. Placed third in 3,200 at State Open and sixth at New Englands in the 2 mile.
Honors: All-State and All-New England selection.
Off the track: National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society.
Up next: Will run cross country and track at Quinnipiac.

Selina Sampieri
Cheshire, Sr., pole vault/jumps

Stats: Placed first at the SCC East Sectional (10-6), first at SCC (10-0), third at Class LL (10-0) and fourth at State Open (10-0) in the pole vault. Finished third in high jump (4-8) at SCC championships.
Honors: School pole vault record holder (10-6).
Off the track: National Honor Society member and SCC Scholar Athlete of the Month for January.
Up next: Committed to Sacred Heart University.

Chaslynn Saucier
Wilbur Cross, Sr., sprints/jumps

Stats: Won the 55 dash SCC, Class L and Open titles. Placed third at New England meet. Finished second in long jump at Class L. Helped lead Cross to SCC and Open team title. Ran on the winning SCC, Class L and Open sprint medley relay. Placed second in nation in SMR at New Balance (4:02.68).
Honors: National Society of High School Scholars.
Off the track: Participating in outdoor track

Jaliyah White
Hillhouse, Jr., hurdles/sprints

Stats: SCC East Sectional 4×200, 55 hurdles and 300 champion. Placed first in 4×200, third in 55 hurdles and second in 300 at Class M. Finished fourth at State Open in 300 (41.26).
Off the track: President of junior class and part of Pathways to College program. Also a two-time high honors with
distinction recipient.
