2014 NH County All-Area Boys Indoor Track Team

Christian Alvarado
Fairfield Prep, Sr., distance

Stats: Won the 1,600 and 3,200 at the SCC championships and Class LL meet. Broke the 3,200 SCC meet record. Set a state and meet record in the 3,200 at the State Open (9:07.63). Won the New England 2 mile in a meet- and state-record time of 9:00.29.
Honors: All-SCC, SCC meet MVP and All-State.
Up next: Committed to Georgetown.

Jeremy Iverson
Amity

Stats: Guided Amity to an East Sectional team title and edged out Xavier by two points to win the SCC championship. Placed seventh at the Class LL meet.

Doud Akok
Wilbur Cross, Sr., jumps

Stats: Won the SCC Championship in the high jump, clearing 6-2. Finished second at the Class L and third at the State Open with a personal best of 6-4.
Up next: Considering Southern Connecticut State University, Western Connecticut, Eastern Connecticut and the University of Bridgeport.

Ian Bergere
Hand, Jr., pole vault

Stats: Won the SCC East Sectional with a vault of 14-3. Placed first at the SCC championships and Class L, soaring 14 feet in both meets. Placed third at the State Open.
Honors: Holds the school pole vault record.
Off the track: Also plays soccer.

Ryan Flach
Oxford, Sr., sprints

Stats: Won the Class S 600 in a time of 1:24.51, finished second at the State Open in 1:24.43.
Honors: Coaches All-State selection.
Up next: Considering Sacred Heart and Southern Connecticut State for nursing.

Shawn Fletcher
Hillhouse, Jr., hurdles/jumps

Stats: Won the SCC Eastern Sectional 55 hurdles title, finished second at the Class M meet (7.91) and fifth at the State Open (7.88). Had a season-best time of 7.85.
Off the track: Two-time High Honors, part of Pathways to College.

Nik Griswold
Foran, Sr., jumps

Stats: Placed second in the high jump and sixth in the 55 hurdles at the SCC championships, won the Class M high jump (6-2), placed fourth in the long jump (20-3) and sixth in the high jump (6-0) at the State Open.
Honors: All-State.
Off the track: Participates in football and outdoor track.
Up next: Will attend Quinnipiac.

Thomas Kane
Shelton, Sr., sprints

Stats: Placed third in the 55 dash at the SCC Championships, placed third at the Class LL and fifth at the State Open (6.66) in the event. Ran on the 4×200 relay.
Off the track: Team MVP and CAPT Scholar.

Mike Lang
Woodland, Sr., jumps

Stats: Won the 55 hurdles, long and high jump at the NVL championships, finished second in the long jump and fourth in hurdles at the Class S meet, and won the State Open long jump crown (21-07).
Honors: All-NVL and was named outstanding jumper, field performer and senior at NVL meet.
Off the track: Also plays football.
Up next: Considering Central Connecticut, Southern Connecticut, Western Carolina, UMass-Lowell and Rhode Island.

Liam Nicoll
Cheshire, Sr., sprints

Stats: SCC champion in the 300, placed second (36.02) at the Class LL meet and sixth at the State Open. Part of the winning SCC and Yale Invitational 4×400 relay.
Honors: All-SCC selection
Off the track: Class Vice President, President of Young Democrats.
Up next: Will attend Bowdoin College,

Chibueze Njoku
Cheshire, Sr., shot put

Stats: Won the SCC championships with a throw of 50-2 and finished third in Class LL.
Honors: All-SCC selection.
Off the field: Part of Future Business Leaders of America, Exchange Excel Club and Best Buddies.

Aaron Rattley
Amity, Jr., hurdles/jumps

Stats: Won the 55 hurdles (7.78) at the SCC championship meet, placed second in the long jump and was part of the winning 4×200 relay. Finished fifth at Class LL and fourth at the State Open in hurdles.
Off the track: Will participate in outdoor track.

Christopher Ruggiero
Lyman Hall, Sr., shot put

Stats: Was the State Open champion with a throw of 51-08. Won the Class M meet (50-11.5) and placed second at the SCC championships.
Off the track: Participated in football.
Up next: Considering University of Rhode Island and St. Joseph’s College of Maine.

Luke Velez
Xavier, Sr., sprints

Stats: Placed second in the 300 at the SCC championships, fourth at the Class LL meet and finished third at the State Open in 35.92 seconds. Was part of 4×400 relay squad that finished third at the SCC meet.
Honors: All-SCC Quinnipiac Division.
Off the track: Member of the National Honor Society.
Up next: Considering UConn and Southern Connecticut State.

Zachary Williams
Xavier, Sr., distance

Stats: Placed second in the 1,600 and 3,200 at the SCC championships, was fifth at the State Open (9:23.31) and placed seventh in the 2 mile at New Englands in 9:17.56.
Honors: All-SCC selection.
Off the track: Part of the National Honor Society and Science Honor Society.
Up next: Committed to Bucknell.

Michael Yuan
Amity, Sr., distance

Stats: Won the 1,000 (2:37.19) at the SCC Championship meet, placed fifth at Class LL and seventh at the State Open. Anchored winning spring medley relay at SCC Championship meet.
Honors: All SCC selection.
Off the track: President of Student Council, National Honor Society member, National Merit Scholarship finalist.
