2014 New Haven Register All-Area Gymnastics Team

Stefani Taschner – MVP
Hand, senior

Stats: Was the Southern Connecticut Conference champion in vault, bars, floor and all-around. Finished in fifth place all-around at the State Open and third in floor at New Englands. Tied school bars record at 9.4.
Honors: Elite All-American on vault and floor. All-American on beam, bars and all-around. First team All-State and an All-SCC selection.
Off the floor: Chinese 4 Honors Student, National Society for High School Scholars.
Up next: Will compete in gymnastics at Towson University.

Kelly Smith – Coach of the Year
Hand

Stats: Guided team to first New England championships appearance since 2006. Tigers captured SCC team title and set a new meet record of 141.45 points, won the Class  M title, placed second at the State Open and fifth at New Englands. Hand also won the Pomperaug Invitational.
Off the floor: Named the CIAC Coaches Association Coach of the Year. Has been the Area Coach of the Year the past four seasons.

Mikayla Connor
Valley Regional, junior

Stats: Finished tied for seventh on the beam (9.050) at the State Open.
Honors: Second Team All-State.
Off the mat: Honor roll.
Up next: Junior is considering Rhode Island College, among others.

Marie Facin
North Haven, senior

Stats: Guided team to a second-place finish at SCC Championships by placing second on vault with a score of 9.2. Led her squad to a seventh-place showing at Class M meet where she scored a 9.000 on vault.
Honors: First team All-State selection.
Up next: Considering Southern Connecticut and Central Connecticut.

Meghan French
Shelton, senior

Stats: Placed first on beam, second in all-around, and third on vault at the SCC Championships. Finished fourth on beam, fifth on floor and 11th all-around at the State Open. Tied for fourth on beam at New England meet. Has an all-time high of 36.65 in all-around.
Honors: All-SCC selection.
Up next: Headed to Rhode Island College for gymnastics.

Maria Iennaco
Hand, senior

Stats: Finished third on beam at the State Open with a personal-best score of 9.2. Placed sixth on beam and fifth on floor at SCC Championships. Part of winning SCC and Class M team championship. Qualified for New Englands and High School Nationals.
Honors: All-SCC, first team All-State, All-American on vault and beam.
Off the mat: Academic All-American.
Up next: Will attend Boston University.

Kendall Jerzyk
Hand, senior

Stats: Won the floor exercises and placed second on beam, fourth in all-around and bars at the SCC Championship meet. Finished sixth on beam at the State Open. Part of winning SCC and Class M team titles.
Honors: All-SCC, first-team All-State and All-American selection in vault, bars, balance beam, floor and all-around. Qualified for New Englands and Senior Nationals. Two-time captain.
Off the floor: Also played volleyball
Up next: Headed to Providence College.

Sammie LeMire
Hale-Ray, senior

Stats: Competed for the Haddam-Killingworth/Hale-Ray/Old Saybrook co-op team. Placed third in all-around (37.350) at the State Open. Finished seventh in all-around (37.275) and tied for fourth on beam at New Englands.
Honors: First Team All-State selection.
Off the floor: National Honor Society, Scholar Athlete and volunteers with Special Olympics.
Up next: Considering Rhode Island College and Ithaca.

Cynthia Lerman
Branford, junior

Stats: Placed third in vault, fourth on bars, fifth on beam and all-around and sixth on floor at SCC Championships. Tied for ninth on beam (8.900) and finished 12th on vault (8.950) at the State Open. Placed first in five regular season meets in all-around.
Honors: All-SCC and All-State selection.
Off the floor: High honors, CAPT Scholar, plays second base for the Branford softball team and volunteers at Leaps of Faith.

Julia Lindberg
Shelton, junior

Stats: Placed fourth on beam (8.7), sixth on vault (9.0) at SCC championships. Tied for seventh on vault (9.175) at the State Open.
Honors: All-SCC and First Team All-State selection.

Erin Maxwell
Hand, sophomore

Stats: Finished third on beam (9.0) and sixth all-around (33.70) at SCC Championships, placed 10th on beam at State Open. Part of winning SCC and Class M team championship. Qualified for New England meet.
Honors: All-SCC, second team All-State and All-American selection on beam.
Off the floor: Also plays field hockey.

Abby McGuirk
Hand, junior

Stats: Finished fifth at State Open on bars, tying the school record of 9.4. Placed second in bars, third in all-around and floor at SCC championships. Finished first at Pomperaug Invitational in all-around. Qualified for New Englands.
Honors: All-SCC, First Team All-State and All-American for all-around.
Off the floor: Plays in marching and symphonic bands.

Katie Seegert
Old Saybrook, sophomore

Stats: Competed for the Haddam-Killingworth/Hale-Ray/Old Saybrook co-op team. Finished in 24th place in bars, tied for 26th in beam, finished 27th in floor, tied for 37th in the vault and finished 43rd overall at the State Open. Season was highlighted with a 9.00 on vault and 9.05 on floor.
Honors: Second Team All-State.
Off the mat: Competing in outdoor track and field. Honor roll student.
