Cheshire Academy had a pair of lacrosse head coaching openings and didn’t go too far to fill the vacancies according to an announcement by the Cats’ communication office.
A.J. Raccio, the Hamden Hall boys lacrosse coach the past six seasons, returns to his alma mater to coach the Cheshire Academy boys lacrosse team. Katie Keogh, who coached the Hamden Hall girls lacrosse team the past two seasons, will head up Route 10 to take over the Cheshire Academy girls lacrosse team.
Raccio graduated from Cheshire Academy in 1979 where he played boys lacrosse. The highlight of his six-year coaching career at Hamden Hall was in 2012 when the Hornets finished 11-4. That season Raccio was selected the Register All-Area Boys Lacrosse Coach of the Year and he was also named the 2012 WNESSLA Division II Coach of the Year.
In addition to lacrosse Keogh will also coach the Cheshire Academy girls soccer team.
Prior to her high school coaching career Keogh was head coach for both th women’s lacrosse and women’s soccer programs at Green Mountain College in Vermont.
According to a press release from Cheshire Academy, Keogh started coaching at a summer camp when she was 18. She said her knowledge of the competitiveness of the athletic league will be helpful as she works to develop the teams.
