Friday’s New Haven county girls’ soccer roundup: Branford, Mercy victorious

Tanya Altrui’s first half goal was all the third-seeded Branford girls’ soccer team needed to defeat No. 11 Wilton 1-0 Friday in the Class L state quarterfinals at Branford. lead the Hornets to their quarterfinal win in Branford.
Goalie Becca Vitale had eight saves for the Hornets (18-2-1), who advanced to the semifinals for the first time in school history. They will face Immaculate.
