MIDDLETOWN >> Dave Sytulek, a longtime physical education teacher and head boys basketball coach at Middletown High School, has been appointed the Athletic Director at South Windsor High School.

South Windsor principal Daniel Sullivan, a former vice-principal at MHS, confirmed the appointment via telephone on Thursday afternoon.

According to sources, Sytulek made the round of final interviews for the Middletown High School athletic director position but chose to go to South Windsor before a decision was made.

Middletown AD Mike Pitruzzello, who is retiring, said after Sytulek submits a letter of resignation there is a process in place for the posting and hiring of a new head boys basketball coach.

Sytulek, who played basketball at St. Thomas Aquinas in New Britain, has been a teacher in the Middletown school system for 18 years. He became the Blue Dragons boys basketball coach in 2007.

Sytulek’s teams made the state tournament every season. He compiled a record of 99-60 in seven seasons.

Last year Middletown finished 15-8 and won the Central Connecticut Conference South Division championship with a 12-2 mark.
