Ansonia routs Crosby, awaits NVL Championship game opponent

ANSONIA — Arkeel Newsome ran for 120 yards and three touchdowns on 10 carries and Jai’Quan McKnight threw a pair of touchdown passes as Ansonia defeated Crosby 50-8 on senior night at Jarvis Stadium.

Sophomore Tyler Bailey and Senior Jack Williams both scored touchdowns. Thomas Majchzak also caught a touchdown pass for Ansonia (10-0). Chris Herrera scored for Crosby (1-9).

Depending on the outcome of this weekend’s games, Ansonia is scheduled to play in the NVL Championship game either Wednesday at Waterbury’s Municipal Stadium or on Thanksgiving vs. Naugatuck.

A Woodland win over Derby will put the game on Wednesday. A Woodland loss and a Naugatuck win will put it on Thanksgiving.

The NVL title game date was changed from Thursday to Wednesday to accommodate Ansonia’s desire to attend late coach Jack Hunt’s induction into the Connecticut High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame. The banquet is Thursday night.

TOUGH GAME LAST NIGHT, HUH MR RAY RAY
I think most of the SCC teams XAVIER,WEST HAVEN,HAND,PREP,SHELTON,NDWH, NORTH HAVEN etc. could have played their JV’s and got the same result.

The problem with people who are haters like you is that you always gravitate to teams that are good once every so often and disrespect teams that are good year in and year out. Count the championship banners a team has before you spill your garbage

Ansonia is a storied program and this is a fact. They cant switch leauges so they must play the schedule they are dealt. They played Masuk this year so they id try to schedule a good game and its not their fault that Masuk turned into Mutiny on the Bounty. They cant switch leauges either. Where would they go? They are an S school and dont have any other lucrative sports year in and out that someone else would take them(wrestling, lacrosse, track, ect) Do they play a schedule like SCC D1
or FCIAC? No. I beleive they would have success in those leauges however not to the extent they have had. Take a look at Hand’s schedule. its brutal. They would have a tough time with injuries and depth year in and out but they have had some great teams that even if they did play that schedule they would win. Most of the angst towards them is generated from a poster who is oblivios to these ideas.

ND-WH according to Max Preps has the toughest schedule in the State this year. Playing Xavier, Prep, Hand, West Haven anD that’s just there conference games. The two out of conference games were St Joes(9-1) and Ridgefield(8-2) and they are in a transition year and not very good. If anyone thinks that Ansonia would win out in those games they need to have there head examined or they are just most likely clueless on football and think just because Ansonia wins most of there games that they are some juggernaut. That’s basically the story with that you have people that have only watched Ansonia and don’t realize that the competition is awful which yes some of it is not Ansonia’s fault and some is but don’t take credit on being worldbeaters when you play a schedule that’s comparable to a tech league’s. I also don’t want to hear about the S school bs and they suit up 30 kids. That’s a crock of you know what because every kid in that town’s life goal is to play football for Ansonia so that fact of numbers is a joke. I’ve been at a few Ansonia high games and they suit up as many kids from several different towns that LL and L schools do. I counted in one game they had 65-70 kids and the Ansonia roster has 55-60 kids this year that dress Varsity. A class S school does not dress that many kids and it gets old when they cry about numbers. Woodland a few years back dressed 77 kids in a playoff game and there S to. They have a abundant amount of players for class S, North Branford has 25-30 kids thats being limited not Ansonia thats a joke that they complain about that because they are no where close to having number problems and that above schedule that ND played I can see Ansonia winning the Ridgefield game and thats it. I don’t want to hear about the West Haven scrimmage that only Ansonia cares about playing starters every down while West Haven could care less and gets everyone in. Here’s how those games would go and complain if you want but i know for a fact I know the game better than any clown on these blogs 100 % fact and ill prove it if you like so here’s the TRUTH……Xavier 28 Ansonia 7 and Xavier stinks this year. FF Prep 42 Ansonia 21….. Hand 28 Ansonia 16 ……West Haven 45 Ansonia 20
St Joes 56 Ansonia 20…….. Ansonia 35 Ridgefield 33 that’s 1-5 folks and that’s pretty right on and i’ll throw in a few more Shelton 19 Ansonia 7…… and last but def not least the game everyone wants to see except Big Blue fans lol that’s another joke for another day Big Blue lol……….
NEW CANAAN 63 Ansonia 14 no doubt it would be that bad if not worse!!!!!

ansonia has a great program. great tradition. state champion over and over. they are a class s school playing a class s schedule. and they kill their competition. they have a great winning streak and tradition. i have nothing but admiration. at the same time, they play the 116th most difficult schedule in the state of conn according to maxprep. yes that is correct. there are 115 high schools in conn (a state that has only 166 high schools) that play a more difficult schedule than ansonia. ndwh, hand, the other scc d1 schools, st joes, these schools play a tough schedule. could ansonia beat the best of these teams? maybe. but common sense tells you probably not. could they play their schedule week in and week out and go undefeated or 10-1. on this one has to be highly skeptical. in any event we dont know if they would beat these teams or how they would do playing their schedule. and never will. but the burden of proof has to be on the team that plays the extremely weak schedule. ansonia simply should not be ranked in the polls ahead of best of these teams that play a tough schedule. it is fundamentally and obviously unfair.
