No. 3 Darien stuns No. 1 Notre Dame-West Haven on Watters’ late goal

DARIEN >> Tommy Watters’ goal with 45 seconds remaining lifted No. 3 Darien to a 1-0 victory over top-ranked Notre Dame-West Haven Monday at the Darien Ice Rink.

Darien improved to 8-1-1 and extended its unbeaten streak to nine games dating back to the season opener.

Notre Dame fell to 10-2-1. This is the Green Knights’ first loss since New Canaan defeated them 4-3 in overtime in the season opener.

    Now I am impressed. Just hope the Darien team didn’t toss their gloves and sticks in the air like they did after they beat Prep.

      Darien is for real. No coincidence that NDWH losses are both in FCIAC. FCIAC is top heavy and bottom weak, yes…but the top teams are very good.
      As far as tossing sticks, that comes with being on top for a long time. When you are finally beaten, there is excitement. Both Darien and NC cannot and don’t recruit outside of their enrollment which is strictly governed by geographical boundaries, plus they lose many more kids to prep schools and juniors than anyone else. So when they beat schools at the top that do openly recruit, and consequently win all the time, why shouldn’t they be fired up?
